The Adventures of Tarka
Добавлен 23 апр 2017
Without any sailing experience, and on a small budget, I quit my job to sail a tiny 27-foot sailboat named Tarka around the world. I dove head first into this adventure, and was immediately faced with the task of ocean passage-making to escape the hurricane belt, and am now heading west for the Pacific.
This is where it ends - Sailing Tarka Ep. 47
I am so sorry I left everyone hanging for so long. This is the last episode in our 2+ year journey on Tarka, and it has been long overdue for some time now. I hope to follow-up soon with an short epilogue of what has transpired since Tarka was sold. I am forever grateful for everyone's patience, understanding, and I hope it was worth the wait.

You are so brave. She’s always smiling. All is amazing
Hopefully you two are still together, a decent American guy that’s willing to learn and a wonderful, beautiful Swedish girl that’s an accomplished free diver, scuba diver, photographer, kite board surfer and most importantly a beautiful person. Hope you are both doing well and in love, as you always appeared in this story. Much love to you both ❤
There have only been three sailing channels I have been able to get into. You kept it real. I’m about to buy my first sailing boat and it will be a small 27+ and start sailing just as you did. I am glad you finished with a goodbye. I hope you and Noustha are still together. Sorry for your loss. I hope all goes well. Maybe you’ll do an update in the future to tell us how it is going. All the best from Australia.
So sad to see you leave the boat, i enjoyed your videos so much in lockdown, only wish i could have been with you on your adventures. Life moves on,and with it a new adventure on doubt. Scuba diving will always be in my heart, just as sailing will be for you. Someday your return in body or spirit, but never forget its been a once in your life experience never to be repeated. Take care...and let the wind keep your sails full.
So whats next men? Like your videos 👌
Creative! Yes. Are there no satellites broadcasting weather info? There are lots of disused American satellites from 1970s still floating in space and still perfectly functioning that Brazilians are using instead of mobile phones - discussing football etc. Making a satellite antenna costs pennies.
little tricky to keep a satellite antenna steady on a boat of this size
A simple fun Face Mask or your Scuba Mask or any Goggles could make your journey more pleasant if you didn't enjoy getting splashed in the face!🤣😂😂 I would Hoave To until morning, get in, dry off ,cook dinner, sleep.
Hey bro, I was so fond of your videos, you really had a gift for it. I used to think a great video needed to be bigger and better than everything else, but you tapped into something different - the art of telling a story - i think. I thought of you today and wondered what has happened to you, do you not have that hunger for more adventures of any sorts? I had a little 20ft sailing boat i used to go around the Great Barrier Reef for upto a couple of weeks at a time, which to me seemed long, and quite an acomplishment and I remember feeling like I could have acheived anything afterwards and compared to your adventure and acheivements it pales in comparison. Anyway mate, I hope you are content and havent forgotten that anything is possible. All the best - Loui.
We love we live we loose and we win on our journey, good luck on your next one, where ever the winds may blow you Thank you for your lessons
Kite boarders galore there. Most beautiful dive sites this side of the Pacific
Thanks for sharing. I use a similar technique only changing the ascender on the harness to a gri gri so I have an easy way down.
Excellent job of simplifying this
Stay On the roads and paths because the flora and fauna is brutal with many things which will scratch and cut you. The diving is great and this island has an ancient fort. Too.
Really loved watching your channel over the years. Wish you well!
So sorry for ur loss... put out another vid , just as an update to ur lives
All the best! ❤
Loving it. But how are you reefing your mainsail?!
Doing pretty well for having no sail experience!
It's just so sad!! I wish that you continue to film your next chapter of life to let us know how you were doing! I wish that Tarka also could have been mine!
Can't you go around the strait of Magellan..
I taught myself to sail in a very similar way, 60 years ago. You've done well. Your dad would be proud, and probably was.
Wicked cool photos
😂land snorkeling that’s a first! 😊
Nice job and thanks for showing off your boat. I’ve been curious
Tarka a legend among the Vega
I would presume you could use a cheap SDR dongle and pick it up directly on the PC. Not to discourage people from getting into Radio, Ham and SSB HF but an SDR dongle would be cheap and make a great backup as well. Of course the ongoing Maritime Mobile Net on 14.300 make getting into ham radio worth it for anyone out cruising IMO.
I've recently "completed" your channel. Even if you never sail again you've had adventures that so many could only dream of. Whatever steps you take from Tarka onwards, we'll all still be here to support you. Love from Ireland
tell people about the bottom paint so they dont waste their money
4:56 am I a jerk for figuring out you're both gay? Just be you.

the grenada carnival events look great, curious how many HIV infected people were there though. Would love to be there for that event, I am a slutty male though so I worry..I've never had anything and dont want anything but i do know these countries have a high HIV count and it's scary.
im watching ll of your past videos, its funny how you say, 1. quit job, 2. make a plan..lol thats not the order
Thank you for the videos just watched them all for the 2nd time this time with my family we all enjoyed every minute of it and wish you the best this was my 1st and still is my favorite channel
Double hose clamps, especially on thru-hulls, please! Otherwise, nice AV27. Good job on the electrics. Very neat.
Why did he stop the sailing life? Whats he doing now?
Ik this is 6yrs old. But this is my dream man, wonder how much u started with. I was going to try and save up 20k or so outside of boat cost and just set sail and see where it takes me. Do work where ever i stay for a while. It seems most these folks on youtube have 100s of thousands and online jobs or pentions. I wanna see more 30yr old saying fuck the rat race
Enjoyed your channel! Just Subscribed.I’m trying to convince my wife that a circumnavigation is a great retirement project and went so far as to even start a little channel (@NavalGazingatCampDavid) to sell her on the life style….desperate times and all that. Lol. Thanks again for the great content. I have a whoooole new appreciation for the time and care it takes to create these episodes!
If I may suggest. Your jib was was hanging limp because it was BLANKETED in the wind shadow of the main, not luffing. Turning upwind, as you did, would have increased the intensity of a luff. It appears to me that your autopilot was performing its job well, turning to STARBOARD (not port), in response to a veering wind. Overruling it by turning it to port is what caused your gybe. Quite frequently, you will find that the speed increase from a reach will get you to a downwind destination faster than a dead run, and requires less fiddling. --Sail fast and reckless.
Well done .How fast you went in knot?
This is the only sailing channel that I can relate to, AOT was the very first to introduce me to sailing and have been the most inspiring, I really hope you continue soon and we'll be here waiting. until then, I wish you all the best.
Amazing. 🙏🏻
welcome in the ow world, sure you stil enjoy scuba diving, nice video, enjoy
Fair winds
🌎I follow several sailing channels in here but your channel was the first and the number 1🥇for me⛵️ I know you have another boat now and I hope that you will make a «comeback» with it🙏 I wish you all the best Captain🌏
A o T , 1st sailing utube I discovered. Binged each video which brought back sailing memories and were a help during boring lockdown at home during that time. Thank you! Maybe your spirit of adventure takes you to places worth seeing. I saw the Caribbean in the Navy in the 80's and truly enjoyed your footage there.
hey pal this is amazing!!!, do you navigate via instruments? or by the stars? , this is a serious question, i would like to learn sailing like you .
Such a wonderful story teller. Thank you for sharing yourself and your journey. And please keep telling stories. About anything.
Great narration. You have a gift: storytelling. Nothing is better than adventures in small boats.
i totally didnt spend like three days searching youtube to find this channel again... no...
By accident I scrolled down my subscribe list and was both excited to see another video but saddened by the title. I subscribed because I have a Vega, I kept watching because you are a natural and wonderful story teller and videographer. I hope at some point you charge up the drone, pick up your camera and choose a new topic/adventure. Even if it's about cabbage farming I have no doubt it will be captivating. Your honesty and vulnerability are super rare in this endless slosh of video muck. Thank you for your contribution to a better humanity.
